There are a number of products on the market today that people like to think they can feel safe in using. Customers want confidence that the product hasn’t been tampered with and potentially become contaminated. Products such as over-the-counter medicines, food products, lotions and creams, lip balm and lipstick, soaps, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and tooth care products, and many more are all on this list. Basically, anything we put into our mouths or rub on our skin should be packaged in such a way that makes it obvious if it has been tampered with.
Food Products
Food products that should be tamper-evident include bottled or canned juices, soda pop, or other drinks as well as other types of food. In this day and age, it is not wholly unthinkable that someone could somehow contaminate food products with poison. It is also possible for rodents or other critters to damage food packaging, although the type of damage animals do is usually much more noticeable than that of a criminal.
Medicines
Another category of products that are extremely important to package in such a manner as to render tampering obvious is medicine. Whether you are dealing with over-the-counter or prescription drugs, consumers like to think that when they open the bottle of pain relievers or cold medicine that they are the first one to open it. Therefore, medicinal products should be as securely packaged as possible. Put the peel-away seal on the bottle of pills and then wrap the lid with cellophane. Both should be untouched when the consumer purchases the item and remain that way until the buyer opens it for their use.
Toiletries
Even items such as soaps, shampoos, conditioners, hair color products, lotions, creams, toothpaste, and mouthwash should be sealed in such a way that any time it is tampered with, it is very obvious. No one wants to brush their teeth with toothpaste that has been contaminated with an unknown substance or rub lotion into their skin that has been polluted with some type of allergen.
Any time you are packaging products such as those mentioned above, be certain that the packaging you are using has some readily observable method for the customer (and retailer) to see if it has been tampered with. Whether this is a broken cellophane seal, a cap that is loose, or the inside seal being messed with, it is an important step. After all, you want to make sure that your consumers trust your product.
